Kayak between Herkenrode and Kuringen -
Starting from the 1st of July, you can enjoy a wonderful new kayak route on the Demer, with put-in and take-out points past Herkenrode's "Infirmerie". Admire the English Park from the water and discover the green banks of the Demer!
This touristic infrastructure project by Peddelsport Vlaanderen and Herita was made possible in part by a subsidy from Toerisme Vlaanderen and the City of Hasselt.
You can rent 3 single-person kayaks and 3 tandem kayaks on site!

Download the Drop in Box app (in the App Store or Google Play Store)
Open the lock using Drop in Box and follow the instructions in the app.
Take the equipment out of the box & inspect it
You may use the box to store your clothes. Use the lock.
Safety first!
Read the safety instructions.
Now take your kayak/SUP onto the water
Unlock the box, put the equipment back as you found it, and lock the box again with your smartphone.

Paddle Share is a self-service machine thatstores the kayak you have booked. You can find this machine at the Herkenrode Abbey, just past the infirmary. Pick up the kayak and begin your trip in thedirection of Kuringen. After one and a half hour you'll have reached thelaunching spot again, where you can store the kayak neatly back into the Paddle Share machine! To protect the nature along the banks of the Demer, kayakingwith your own gear or exiting along the route is not allowed.
